Packing List

What to Pack​

When camping, it is important to pack the right materials for the right activities/weather. This page will give you important packing suggestions, and help you be prepared for your next campout.​

Clothing:

  • T-Shirts
  • Wicking shirts (Class B works too)
  • Sweatshirt
  • Shorts
  • Pants
  • Hiking boots and a pair of comfortable sneakers
  • Hat
  • Poncho/other raingear
  • Underwear
  • Socks

Equipment:

  • Sleeping bag/warm blanket
  • Sleeping pad
  • Ground cloth/tarp (if not provided)
  • WATER BOTTLE (A Camelback® works well)
  • Compass
  • First-aid kit
  • Day Pack
  • Insect Repellant
  • Sunscreen
  • Mess Kit
  • Flashlight

Hygiene:

  • Toothbrush/toothpaste
  • Soap
  • Facecloth
  • Anti-perspirant

Optional Gear:

  • Camera
  • Sunglasses
  • Notebook
  • Playing cards
  • Foldable Chair

Clothes:

  • Wool cap or synthetic ski cap that covers the ears
  • Warm long underwear, tops and bottoms (thermal/duo fold suggested)
  • Warm long sleeve shirt
  • Warm sweater or jacket
  • Windproof jacket (ski jacket, parka)
  • Raincoat or poncho (be sure it fits over the jacket)
  • Warm pants (synthetic material that sheds water is the best)
  • Snow pants or ski pants to wear over regular pants
  • Wool or synthetic material socks (wear two or three pair at once)
  • Boots, loose fitting and waterproof
  • Mittens (preferably water-resistant/proof)

Equipment:

  • Sleeping bag/warm blanket
  • Sleeping pad
  • Ground cloth/tarp (if not provided)

  • Compass

Personal Gear:

  • Flashlight
  • Pocketknife
  • plastic bag to hold wet boots in tent or sleeping bag at night
  • clean up kit: toilet paper, soap, tooth brush/paste, wash cloth
  • throw-away hand warmers

  • Jacket
  • Poncho or Rain Coat
  • Wool base layers
  • Warm socks for sleeping
  • Leggings/Hiking Pants

  • Camping Backpack
  • Tent (Guidelines, Stakes, Mallet, Ground Tarp)
  • Mess Kit
  • First Aid Kit
  • Pocketknife
  • WATER BOTTLE (A Camelback® works well)
  • Troop Equipment (Stove, Chuck Boxes)
  • Flashlight

Toiletries:

  • Toothbrush/Toothpaste
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect Repellent

Backpacking trips typically require a scout to carry large amounts of gear in their backpack. Please make sure you have a backpack that can store most of the above items.

merit badges (if on your schedule)
