Announcements

Everyone, happy Sweet Sixteen to some schools (N.C. State), but not others (Virginia). Since the NCAA tournament second round will not end until late tonight (well after I’m asleep), I’ll try to send the patrol bracket competition status later this week.

A few Troop 682 announcements are below. As a reminder, because of spring break, we will not meet on Tuesday (March 26).

1. NO TROOP MEETING – MARCH 26. Because of spring break, we will not meet on Tuesday (March 26).

2 . MULCH SALE FUNDRAISER PILOT – TROOP ORDERS. As a reminder, during the spring 2024 mulch sale fundraiser pilot: (1) we hung door tags announcing the sale; (2) purchasers will scan a QR code and order the desired number of bags; (3) the mulch company will deliver orders of 10 or more bags; and (4) purchasers of less than 10 bags will pick up their order from Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church (“PVUMC”) on Saturday, April 20.

Troop 682 families (and others) may order mulch at https://troop682chantillymulch.org/. The order deadline is March 30.

3. PLC MEETING – APRIL 1. The patrol leaders council will meet on Monday, April 1 (no fooling) at 7:00 pm at PVUMC. Unless excused by Mr. Whiteley or me, all troop 682B scouts serving in a position of responsibility (except assistant patrol leader) must attend.

4. OA SULLY CHAPTER MEETING – APRIL 11. The Order of the Arrow (“OA”) Sully Chapter will meet on Thursday, April 11, at 7:00 pm at the Sully District Government Center (4900 Stonecroft Boulevard, Chantilly, Virginia). All troop 682 OA members are encouraged to attend.

5. SCOUT SKILLS CAMPOUT – APRIL 12-14. As a reminder, the annual scout skills campout is April 12 – 14 at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station, Virginia. Registration and additional information will be provided later.

6. SPRING TROOP ELECTIONS – APRIL 23. During the April 23 troop meeting, troops 682B and 682G will elect a senior patrol leader and patrol leaders.

7. MULCH PICKUP – APRIL 20. As noted above, and as part of our mulch sale fundraiser pilot, purchasers of less than 10 bags of mulch will pick up their order from PVUMC on Saturday, April 20. Scouts and adult leaders will serve shifts during the day to assist with pickups. Scheduling and other information will be provided later.

8. SUMMER CAMP 2024. As a reminder, we’ll attend Camp Bowman (Goshen Scout Reservation) July 21 – 27. Pre-registration and additional information is available at https://forms.gle/rynHB6GtMeMcQeAM8. If you pre-registered, then please see and reply to the February 29 email from Assistant Scoutmaster Tom Scott. A few Troop 682 announcements are below. Please note the regular and alternate summer camp announcements.

1. TROOP MEETING – APRIL 9. We’ll meet on Tuesday (April 9) from 7:00 – 8:30 pm at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church (“PVUMC”) – 43987 Little River Turnpike (formerly John Mosby Highway), Chantilly, Virginia.

The Narwhal patrol (Atharv patrol leader) is the April service patrol. The Raven patrol (Aarnav patrol leader) is the April program patrol.

During the meeting:

– The Narwhal patrol will setup (6:45 pm) and open the meeting (pledge of allegiance and scout law or oath);
– We’ll have opening announcements;
– We’ll have patrol time (attendance, advancement, etc.);
– We’ll prepare for the scout skills campout, have merit badge madness, and have new scout activities;
– The Narwhal patrol may plan and lead one or more games;
– We’ll have closing announcements, outdoor ethics comments, rank recognitions, and a scoutmaster minute; and
– The Narwhal patrol will close the meeting (scout oath or law) and cleanup.

2. REGULAR SUMMER CAMP – JULY 21-27. As a reminder, we’ll attend Camp Bowman (Goshen Scout Reservation) July 21 – 27. Pre-registration and additional information is available at https://forms.gle/rynHB6GtMeMcQeAM8. If you pre-register, then you should receive an email from Assistant Scoutmaster Tom Scott regarding the Camp Bowman “parent portal.” You will register and pay for camp, and select merit badges, through the parent portal. “Early bird” pricing ends April 12 and merit badge selection begins April 17. 3. ALTERNATE SUMMER CAMP – JUNE 23-29. As announced previously and noted in an earlier email, we’re exploring an alternate summer camp for scouts who have a conflict with the regular summer camp or who want to attend 2 summer camps. The dates are June 23 – 29 and the camp is Camp Shenandoah (near Harrisonburg, Virginia). 4. NCAA PATROL COMPETITION. With one game remaining, the NCAA basketball tournament patrol competition standings are below. If Connecticut wins Monday night, then the Raven patrol wins. If Purdue wins, then the Narwhal patrol wins. As a reminder, the prize is a highly coveted dinner prepared by the adults during the scout skills campout.

2. TROOP TENT AND CHUCK BOX RETURN. If you have a troop tent or chuck box from the scout skills or other campout, then please return the clean and dry tent and/or box as soon as possible. Many troop tents are missing (primarily from campouts before the scout skills campout).

3. SUMMER CAMP MERIT BADGE REGISTRATION – APRIL 17. As a reminder, we’ll attend Camp Bowman (Goshen Scout Reservation) July 21 – 27. As announced and communicated previously, merit badge registration begins Wednesday (April 17) at 7:00 pm. Scouts will register through the parent portal previously sent to scout parents. Scouts are encouraged to register as soon as registration opens. 4. HARMONY AT CHANTILLY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY – APRIL 20. Harmony at Chantilly is a senior living community. They are requesting assistance with their spring flower garden on Saturday (April 20) from 10:00 am until noon. They are located at 2980 Centreville Road, Herndon, Virginia.
